Waymo, Robotaxi, the alphabet, said it will work with Lyft to launch an independent ride service in Nashville next year-the first major business partnership in Waymo with the transportation company while trying to expand its service all over the country.
The new alliance emphasizes how Waymo keeps opening its options and avoiding approaching any one company – at least at the present time. Earlier this year, Waymo started working with Lyft Componitor Uber in Austin and Atlanta, and it plans to launch it in Miami and Dallas by working with the Moove and Car Rental Rental Electrical Car Company.
For the first time in Nashville, where Waymo was testing vehicles for several months, Waymo says that Lyft would initially deal with fleet management only, such as cleaning and maintenance of vehicles, via the subtix. With Waymo providing a service, the Dragon will eventually be able to use the Lyft app to call an independent vehicle as well, says Waymo, although the company will not determine when the Dragon expects it.
Lyft spokesman described the effort as a “multi -year partnership” and said that the two companies “have ambitions” ultimately to partnership together in more cities.
