According to the new report issued by the recruitment service today, there were 1,461 researchers in the technology industry in Israel in April. The number is not surprising. It represents the continuation of the trend that has become worse steadily since 2022, when the technological labor market witnessed an exceptional boom.
The current figure is the number of job seekers in this sector in January 2019, when it was 7,058, which is 21 % higher than the number in September 2023, before the outbreak of iron war swords, which were 12355.
The high number of unemployed people in the technology sector comes in a period when the public labor market in Israel was steadily recovered, and the total unemployment rate was decreased. The report also shows that high unemployment in technology is not limited to the peripheral functions in the sector or for people at the beginning of their career, but it affects the essence of the industry. Increasing numbers of developers, analysts, data experts, network specialists, systems managers, and roles that are considered stable in the past, find themselves without work.
The report also shows that the number of job seekers in the technology sector as a percentage of all job seekers has reached 11 % in April, an exceptional high level indicating a deep change, not only in the number of demobilization operations but also in the profile of those who have been developed: more expertise, training, and advanced technological education, who are not necessarily able to find new jobs.
Beating
The data indicates that the most difficult to hit the people in the middle of the profession, between the ages of 36 and 45. The employment service says that some young workers may not appear in statistics because they are not entitled to obtain unemployment aid, but though, the height of unemployment is the most prominent among experienced workers who used to their jobs as safe.
The salary levels analysis tend to confirm the image. The average salary of technology job seekers increased by 39 % since the beginning of 2022, which is a more severe increase in the general increase in workers’ salaries in the sector in the same period, which was 24 %.
It is usually expected that among the job seekers, there will be a high percentage of beginners or low wages, but current statistics indicate the opposite. According to the report, the rise in the average salary of job seekers stems from the fact that the average levels, i.e. experienced workers are not also the salary in the industry, who are laid off more than others. The percentage of job seekers who get 25,600 NIS 43,800 per month from only 15 % in August 2022 to 40 % in April 2025.
