As part of the US military aid package for the war, the Director General of the Ministry of Defense, General Amir Baram, today signed a huge contract worth billions of dollars with the Defense Electronics Company. Rafael Advanced Defense Systems To expand serial production of the Iron Dome air defense missile system.
The contract was signed after negotiations led by the head of the Defense Ministry’s Directorate of Research and Development (DDR&D) (MAFAT), Moshe Patel, the director of Israeli programs at the US Missile Defense Agency (MDA) and the executive vice president and head of Rafael’s air defense systems division, Shlomo Toav. As part of the deal, Rafael will supply the Ministry of Defense and the Israeli army with a large quantity of Iron Dome missiles.

The $8.7 billion US aid package, approved by the US Congress in April 2024, includes $5.2 billion to strengthen Israel’s air defense systems: Iron Dome, David’s Sling, and a laser system that is nearing the end of development.
Exceptional interception rates
Iron Dome, which is being developed in Israel and manufactured in cooperation with the US government, is designed to protect against short- and medium-range rockets and missiles, as well as against drone threats. During the war, the system demonstrated impressive performance, with exceptional interception rates, and significant protection of the Israeli home front against missile, missile, drone and cruise missile attacks.
Rafael is the lead developer of Iron Dome, in collaboration with the Elta Division of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), the American company Raytheon, and the Israeli software company mPrest Systems. The US Magen David Adom is a major partner in the development and production of Israeli multi-layer systems, including David’s Sling and Arrow, as well as the production of components for the Iron Dome system.
