OCADO has begun to use zero emissions units across the pioneering dual trailer fleet as part of the efforts made to reduce emissions and reduce costs.
The grocery on the Internet emphasized that the bearing units in Sunswap- supported by batteries and solar panels-are now equipped with their double-nature dual trailers, while maintaining fresh and frozen products that are chilled without the use of diesel.
Each endurance unit completely eliminates diesel consumption, reaching 20.5 tons of carbon dioxide annually and reducing operating costs by up to 81 % compared to traditional cooling. Integrated solar panels provide complementary energy surfaces, which reduces dependence on the grid shipment and expand the operating range.
Sunswap said that units can provide up to 24 hours of frozen operation or two months of cooler operation from one charge, ensuring reliable temperature control without concessions often with sustainable alternatives.
Publishing, which began in July, supports Okado’s goal of achieving net zero emissions through the value chain by 2040. The retail obligations, which have been validated by the Science -based goals initiative (SBTI), includes 1 and 2 cut emissions by 42 % by 2030.
“We are pleased that OCADO has chosen zero cooling technology from Sunswap. This publishing shows that electrical cooling can fulfill the operational requirements of the main retail traders of groceries while supporting sustainability goals,” said Michael Louie, CEO of Sunswap.
The OCADO step reflects a wider trend in the logistics and retail service sectors towards cleaner transportation technologies, as retailers are exposed to increasing pressure on carbon removal and showing progress towards net pledges.
