Reporting on the opening day of the Milipol Paris Homeland Security and Safety Expo in France, Al Jazeera English correspondent Natash Butler found that several Israeli defense companies had pavilions at the event.
In contrast to the ban imposed on Israeli defense companies at such events over the past few years and even the presence of Israeli officials, 39 Israeli companies are participating in the exhibition this year. This comes after French President Emmanuel Macron’s decision in this regard, according to Al Jazeera.

The pavilions of Israeli companies were on display, in an Israel-branded complex, which included cybersecurity companies, facial recognition systems and weapons manufacturers to disperse demonstrations, among others. A representative of the Israel Export Institute told Al Jazeera that “Israel’s hope is peace,” and that Israel’s large defense industry must be viewed “in the context of the conflict in the region.”
About 1,200 companies from all over the world participate in Milipol. A French political commentator told the network that Macron decided to agree to the participation of Israeli companies, unlike what happened in the past, because he “wants a seat at the table” now that a ceasefire has been reached with the mediation of the United States and Qatar. Al Jazeera is funded by Qatar.
The commentator pointed out, “Macron must appease Israel because he needs its approval, and he needs Israel and the United States, if he wants France to be part of the next day in Gaza.”
