BT refunds £18m to customers after failing to provide contract information
BT and Ericsson today announced a multi-million-pound new joint partnership to provide commercial 5G Private Networks for the UK market – the first agreement of its kind in the country.

BT has recovered or credited to 18 million pounds for customers after the enforcement procedures by Offcom, after it was found that the communications giant had violated the rules that require them to provide clear and simple information information before customer subscribed to new deals.

The recovered amounts follow a fine of 2.8 million pounds issued by the organizer last year, which concluded that BT has failed to meet its obligations to clients through its brands EE and PlusNet.

Under the OFCA rules presented in 2022, communications providers must provide basic information to customers about their contract – including the price, and the length of early exit fees – before they agree to register. Mandates are designed to ensure larger transparency and protect consumers from unexpected fees or terms.

BT said it had since taken steps to address the issue and ensure compliance with the regulations. Offcom confirmed that the amounts recovered from the amounts of 18 million pounds are affected by breach, either through direct compensation or account credit.
