The Tel Aviv District Planning and Building Committee approved the submission of a plan for the construction of the UAE Embassy building on 9 Sapir Street, Herzliya.

The plan, promoted by the Israel Lands Authority, covers 2.5 dunams located on the eastern side of the Herzliya Beituah industrial zone, between Sapir Street and the coastal road. At present, the site is a public parking lot.

The aim of the plan is to allow a change of land use: the construction of the UAE Embassy building, with building rights of up to 15,000 square meters of above-ground space, on up to fifteen floors that will be entirely owned by the Embassy. The upper floors are intended for the accommodation of embassy staff and the ambassador, occupying up to 20% of the total building rights.

As part of the plan, a shaded public area will be developed on Safir Street. A wall up to five meters high will surround the embassy site. A Green Line light rail station is planned to be built near the site, on Aba Evin Street.

“important teacher”

The normalization agreement between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, signed in September 2020 within the framework of the Abraham Accords sponsored by the United States, represents a diplomatic breakthrough and a major achievement for Israel and the entire region. Following the agreement, the UAE opened its official embassy in Israel in July 2021, in a temporary residence on Arie Shenkar Street in Herzliya.

The construction of a permanent headquarters for the UAE Embassy represents another step in strengthening relations with Israel. It involves a long-term investment, demonstrating the UAE’s strategic commitment to an active diplomatic presence in Israel and strengthening intergovernmental relations.

Erez Ben Eliezer, a senior city planner in the Tel Aviv region with the Israeli Planning Department, said: “This is an important and significant plan for the city of Herzliya, the Tel Aviv region and the State of Israel. It enhances land use in the industrial zone, deepens international relations, and will contribute to future cooperation. Choosing the location of the embassy in the industrial zone, in an easily accessible location, in the international business environment close to the city’s technology industry center, is appropriate, and through planning flexibility The design will transform the embassy into an important landmark in the region.
